Jasmine's working life began as a teacher of children with hearing impairments. She then trained as a mainstream primary school teacher and worked in special schools, primary schools, and secondary schools across London for several years. She studied for an MA in Adult Education and Lifelong Learning (Goldsmiths College), Psychology and Law (Open University) and then trained as an Educational Psychologist at University College London (UCL). Jasmine then worked for Reading Borough Council for two years and became a Chartered Psychologist. She later completed the Professional Doctorate in Educational Psychology at UCL and worked independently, setting up her own company, JMA Psychology Limited. Later, she studied for an MSc in Occupational Psychology at Goldsmiths College to be able to extend her services to the corporate world. In addition, Jasmine has worked for the Family Courts and for medico-legal purposes. Her background and wide and varied experiences and knowledge base places her in a unique position to work with a wide ranging client group including children and families, schools, further and higher education, and also organisations and their employees. Jasmine is an Associate Member of the British Psychological Society, registered with the Health and Care Professions Council. Jasmine holds a Certificate of Competence in Educational Testing and Certificates in Occupational Testing for both Ability and Personality. Jasmine also holds a Hogan Certificate of Professional Development for interpreting and providing professional development feedback, using the Hogan Suite of Assessments.
Paul is the practice manager at JMA Psychology. He began his career in the military. After leaving the army, he worked in a children’s home in El Paso, Texas, before returning to the UK. He then spent 4 ½ years in Poland, lecturing at Adam Mickiewicz University. Upon his return, Paul established a successful innovative project aimed at diverting children and young people away from crime, which included setting up educational programmes for young offenders and those at risk of offending. He later joined the Police Service, and concurrently completed his PhD in Psychology.
Over the past 14 years, Paul has cultivated a profound interest in special needs, special educational needs, and children's social care, with a particular focus on advancing the understanding of neurodiversity. His academic and professional pursuits have increasingly expanded into the application of psychology within organisational settings. Paul’s expertise extends to improving employer-employee relations, optimising workplace efficiencies, and enhancing organisational dynamics through psychological insights. His understanding of human behaviour, combined with his practical experience in complex, high-stakes environments, allows him to offer strategic solutions that not only enhance employee well-being but also drive organisational performance.
Paul’s multifaceted background in military service, education, law enforcement, and psychology uniquely positions him to deliver comprehensive, evidence-based approaches to a wide spectrum of clients, from individual families to large organisations.
Anna completed an MSc in Psychology, where her research focused on educators experiences of working with children and young people with pathological demand avoidance (PDA). Prior to this, she earned both an MA and BA in International Relations, and is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Linguists. With over 14 years of experience, Anna has developed a deep interest in special educational needs.
Anna’s academic background and professional experience allow her to approach complex issues in education and psychology with a nuanced understanding. Her research into pathological demand avoidance has provided her with valuable insights into complex presentation of needs, which she applies to her work with children and young people. Anna is particularly dedicated to advancing understanding in the area of autism in girls, helping to ensure that their specific needs are recognised and addressed effectively.
Anna’s interdisciplinary expertise, spanning psychology, international relations, and linguistics, enables her to offer a unique perspective in the fields of education and neurodiversity. Her knowledge and commitment place her in an ideal position to contribute meaningfully to educational settings, helping to foster more inclusive and supportive environments.
Owen is now retired, however he is available to JMA Psychology to consult on matters on which he has wide expertise. Following initial qualification as a teacher, Owen followed a career in primary education, including five years as a deputy headteacher and ten years as a primary school headteacher. During his time as a headteacher, he took a BSc in Psychology part-time with the Open University, and subsequently completed the MSc in Educational Psychology at University College London in 1999/2000. Since qualifying he has worked in Kent and is currently an educational psychologist in the London Borough of Croydon. He is registered as a Test User (educational ability and attainment) with the British Psychological Society. He completed his Professional Doctorate in Educational Psychology in 2012, with a particular focus on children's learning of spelling. For the past few years he has been seconded to University College London as an Academic and Professional Tutor on the Doctorate in Educational and Child Psychology course. Owen's particular areas of interest in working with children and young people include dynamic assessment and solution focused brief therapy. He qualified as a psychotherapist in January 2009, and as well as carrying out assessments currently offers therapy to children and young people in the Croydon area.
Jenny is a referral partner of JMA Psychology, with her own practice - Berkshire Psychology (www.berkshirepsychology.co.uk). Jenny has worked for many years in health and social services, gaining experience with children and adults with a range of social, emotional, behavioural, mental health and learning difficulties within community and inpatient settings. Since qualifying as a clinical psychologist in 2009 she has been involved in assessing and providing interventions for children and adolescents with a wide range of needs including emotional, behavioural and mental health difficulties, autism and learning disabilities. She has also facilitated parenting workshops for parents of children with behavioural difficulties and autism. Since April 2011 she has been working in a Tier 4 specialist service in which she undertakes consultations and training to other professionals as well as providing specialist assessments and intervention to young people with a range of needs who present with risky behaviour. She has completed additional training in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) which is a recommended treatment for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and is widely used with anxiety disorders. As an independent practitioner, Jenny undertakes assessments of children and families, contributing expert witness reports for family proceedings. She is a guest tutor at Reading University (Improving Access to Personal Therapy Parenting Course) and Oxford University (Doctoral Programme in Clinical Psychology). Jenny has a special interest in learning disabilities and developmental disorders including Autistic Spectrum disorders. She is also interested in working with young people who present with anxiety disorders including phobias, panic disorder and obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD).
