Owen is now retired, however he is available to JMA Psychology to consult on matters on which he has wide expertise. Following initial qualification as a teacher, Owen followed a career in primary education, including five years as a deputy headteacher and ten years as a primary school headteacher. During his time as a headteacher, he took a BSc in Psychology part-time with the Open University, and subsequently completed the MSc in Educational Psychology at University College London in 1999/2000. Since qualifying he has worked in Kent and is currently an educational psychologist in the London Borough of Croydon. He is registered as a Test User (educational ability and attainment) with the British Psychological Society. He completed his Professional Doctorate in Educational Psychology in 2012, with a particular focus on children's learning of spelling. For the past few years he has been seconded to University College London as an Academic and Professional Tutor on the Doctorate in Educational and Child Psychology course. Owen's particular areas of interest in working with children and young people include dynamic assessment and solution focused brief therapy. He qualified as a psychotherapist in January 2009, and as well as carrying out assessments currently offers therapy to children and young people in the Croydon area.
